Chazan Yohel Heller is a young, passionate and versatile interpreter of Jewish Liturgical music.

He often describes his multicultural background as a 'smörgåsbord'. His grandparents came to Colombia from Austria, Holland and Romania, following persecutions in Europe.  Yohel himself, although born in Bogota grew up in Stockholm, where his father was the Cantor of the Great Synagogue.  This diverse background  enables him a dynamic and vocal artistry with ability to perform in different styles and languages fluently, ranging from Jewish folk music, to Cantorial and Operatic repertoires.

Yohel's musical talent became apparent from a young age, while appearing regularly as a child soloist with his father and world renowned Cantor, Dr. Paul Heller at the Great Synagogue of Stockholm and in Concerts around the world. Already at the age of 13, Yohel sang professionally in Hebrew, Yiddish and Ladino at the refurbishment fund-raising concert of the Synagogue of Norrköping.

His Cantorial training commenced initially with his father Cantor Paul Heller and later with Cantor Maynard Gerber. Both taught him the 'formal' Western European tradition. Since arriving in London, Yohel has studied regularly with Cantor Gedalya Alexander, who taught him to master the more improvisational Eastern European Cantorial tradition and helped Chazan Heller to shape his own style, blending and balancing the two former traditions together.

At the present, Yohel is invited to officiate as Chazan at Shabbat, Festival and High Holyday's Services at The New West End Synagogue in London , where its treasured 'Blue Book' was compiled and later became the musical tradition of the British Jews. There, Chazan Heller sings accompanied by the Synagogue's Professional Choir, Mosaic Voices directed by its Musical Director Michael Etherton. Where their ambition is not only to preserve, but revive the beauty and majesty of Jewish liturgical music.

Described as a Lyric Tenor with a warm 'velvety texture', Cantor Heller's voice has been classically trained in Bel Canto, mainly under Dr. Kenneth Querns and his musical training has been taken under the tutelage of Dr. Benjamin wolf and Benjamin Schilperoort.

Chazan Heller is a member of the European Cantors Association and is a graduate from Regent's University, holding an undergraduate degree in Global Business Management and currently completing a Masters in International Relations.
